Collaborative Knowledge Building in Web-based Learning: Assessing the Quality of Dialogue
نویسندگان
چکیده
This paper addresses the question of how to qualify a knowledge building dialogue in web-based collaborative learning. It investigates the idea of qualifying the dialogue through grading requirements and through providing students with meta-awareness around their dialogue. We investigate and analyze the changes in quality of student interaction in three different deliveries of the course that emerge in response to three different types of instruction on expected behavior. From this we draw preliminary conclusions on the extent to which descriptions of expected behavior influence the interactive process and the quality of the interaction.

Use of Semantic Similarity and Web Usage Mining to Alleviate the Drawbacks of User-Based Collaborative Filtering Recommender Systems
One of the most famous methods for recommendation is user-based Collaborative Filtering (CF). This system compares active user’s items rating with historical rating records of other users to find similar users and recommending items which seems interesting to these similar users and have not been rated by the active user. متن کاملPedagogical Principles of the Theories of Interaction in Distance Learning: The Study of Interaction Anderson Model in Web-based Environments
Background: Interaction is considered a necessary, and integral part in all forms of distance learning and web -based learning environments. That how much technologies can support and help interactions is one of the most important issues that should be considered in the web-based environment. These interactions seek to engage students with other students, teachers and also non-human contex...
متن کاملCSCL interaction analysis for assessing knowledge building outcomes: method and tool
Interaction analysis plays an important role in computer-supported collaborative learning. This paper proposes a multidimensional analysis framework to study the interaction and makes use of the quantitative analysis method to assess the collaborative knowledge building (CKB) outcomes at individual and group levels. A tool is developed that can support interaction analysis, text analysis, socia...
متن کاملObservations of Collaborative Behavior in COMPS Computer Mediated Problem Solving
COMPS is a web-delivered computer-mediated problem solving environment for student collaborative exploratory learning. The primary mode of interaction is typed dialogue, but COMPS also provides problem-specific affordances for exploring a problem. This paper reports qualitatively on dialogues from students employed in four different activities: two logical reasoning problems in a quantitative l...
